PUSH High School Success Coach at Freedom House
It’s the end of March, and for many high school seniors, it’s a big week. Colleges and universities across the country are sending admissions decisions for their incoming freshman classes as teens anxiously await.
At Freedom House, we can feel the nerves among the seniors at our high schools, too. Many, though, have been hearing good news from schools over the last six weeks. It’s been incredible to celebrate with them as they rush into the Guidance Office with acceptance letters and the biggest smiles on their faces.
Wherever students end up, may students be engaged, challenged, and supported in their growth and in all of their endeavors (and may they receive consistent financial support from their institutions to make their pursuits possible!) May they step out of their comfort zones, explore infinitely, continue to think critically, and feel confident as the leaders they are continuing to become.
We know there is no single path to success, even if many tell us otherwise. For some students, a four-year university outside of their home state will be their next step. For others, it may be an in-state school where they can be closer to home. For many, community college, trade school, or work is a great first step after high school. No matter where they go, I hope each of them have at least one person they can turn to when they need someone to listen, or when they need guidance or affirmation. Someone who won’t judge their actions, someone who will give honest feedback and have the student’s best interests in mind and at heart, always.
(I’m getting nostalgic, and we’re not even parting yet!)
